Blending in

The day before yesterday
Stranger: Filipina kaba?
Me: Hinde. (No.)

Yesterday
Colleague: Raquel definitely fits in, here at Japan. You, Joe, you look like a foreigner.

Yoohoo

I have the giddiness to book a trip to, to, to, somewhere here in Asia.

But that trip will have to wait because Sister Carla's graduation in May trumps any other trip.

Can someone pick me up May 16 at Dulles? 3:30 pm.

Grand Canyon's Skywalk: agree or disagree?

3/30/07 edit: I had to remove the video because I just don't know internet code. Click here to see the video.

To the Hualapai Indians: I hope you rake it in.

Unnecessary

Okay.

Who signed me up for Viagra?

Innecesario.

Simply amazing: Cirque Du Soliel

If you've never seen Cirque Du Soliel, you must. It's a sensational show, and it must be enjoyed with someone you love. I watched it by myself last night in Tokyo and left feeling strongly that it should be enjoyed with someone else.

Unfortunately, taking pictures was fobidden so I cannot grace this entry with the amazing acrobatics performed.

I found this on youtube, but obviously it is leaps and bounds more breathtaking in person.

Pop

I miss my grandpa, otherwise known as Pop to the Guerrero grandkids. I like to believe I was his favorite because I used to sit with him on the porch at night while he smoked. He'd flick what was left of his cigarette into the grass. I'd look at him out of the corner of my eye. He'd look at me and nod the slightest nod indicating yes.

Yes, I have his permission to smoke what was left of the cig. Nevermind secondhand smoke and teaching a kid bad habits. That was our time, me and Pop, and I loved it. There was always only a puff or two left anyway. While I focused on the Marlboro Green, I'd hear him chuckle lightly while lighting another. You never seen a kid fling so fast from her rusty chair and into the grass, smiling as she picked up the still-lit cigarette.

I love this childhood memory.

By the way, I'm not a smoker, so I guess his lesson worked. :)

Doko (where)

Where to spend my next vacation?

Thailand?
New Zealand?
Taiwan?
Malaysia?
Sri Lanka?
Laos?
Singapore?
Korea?
Philippines?
China?
Indonesia?
Vietnam?
Hong Kong?
Australia?
Cambodia?
Bhutan?
India?

My gut's top three are India, Hong Kong, and New Zealand.

But where to first? And who wants to go with? I'll take your picture all the time. Promise.

I predicted Kelly Clarkson.

I predicted Ruben Studdard.

I predicted Fantasia Barrino.

Then I moved to Germany and didn't sign up for cable.

Now I have cable.

I predict Lakisha Jones.

Bets, anyone?

Hair - don'ts

Scary, right?

I don't know what to do with my hair anymore; therefore, I am looking for a new hairdo, perhaps get bangs. I'm willing to chop off 12 inches, and I'll stick to my natural color.

I hope you laughed at me as much as I did!

Soon I will post some REAL options.

So much for authority

Today I went to a middle school and sat in the lobby as I waited for my coworker to register her daughter.

I sat facing a corner and was reminded of the power of an adult, especially in a school setting.

Each time a pre-teen came barrelling down the hallway, he'd stop dead in his tracks as he spotted ... Me.

Me sending the vibe of authority--left eyebrow raised, serious look, looking them straight in the eye.

It's been engraved into their minds not to run the hallways for safety reasons, I presume. And my presence reminded them to be careful.

Then.

Word must've gotten around that I wasn't a school aide. They feared me only less than a minute.

Because the next thing you know, these pimply-faced kids are jumping over the lobby plants and cutting through the chairs. Ignoring me and my seriousness.

Next time, I'll bring a bullhorn, wear keys around my neck, and yell sternly for them to walk, not run. Maybe even grab a kid by the back of his collar and haul him to the principal's office.

Found at the Narita Airport

How lucky am I to get a shot like this.

And at the Narita Airport?!

Bam! I plopped right in the front seat like it was reserved for me.

(Taken while waiting for my new coworker to arrive.)
